Na Micologia, ramo da Biologia que estuda a vida dos fungos, o sistema reprodutor se encontra acima do micélio. Durante o processo de crescimento e desenvolvimento do corpo de frutificação, a membrana que o envolve é denominada véu universal. Ele se rompe e forma uma estrutura em forma de copo, chamada volva, que é uma característica morfológica presente em espécies venenosas.
A Luminária Volva faz parte do meu interesse na compreenção da Natureza sob o viés da Computação e a aplicação desse conhecimento em projetos de produto. Utilizando metodologias da Biomimética e modelos computacionais que simulam fenômenos físicos e biológicos, é possível reproduzir estruturas e funcionamentos de organismos vivos no ambiente digital e produzí-los por meio de metodologias de fabricação digital.

In Mycology, a branch of Biology that studies the life of fungi, the reproductive system is located above the mycelium. During the fruiting body's process of growth and development, the membrane that surrounds it is called the universal veil. When growing, it collapses and forms a cup-shaped structure, called volva, which is a morphological feature that is present in poisonous species.
Volva Lamp is one of the projects that express my interest in understanding Nature from the perspective of Computation and the applying this knowledge in product design. Using Biomimetic methodologies and computational models that simulate physical and biological phenomena, it is possible to reproduce living organisms' structures and functionalities in the digital environment and to produce them using digital manufacturing methodologies.
